System Requirements

Lugano works with full local installations of Microsoft 365, Office 2021, 2019, 2016, 2013, and 2010 in Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7 (SP1 or later). We do not support Office 2013 or 2010, and Windows 8 or 7.

Mac compatibility:

Lugano will run on Mac’s provided the desktop version of Office for Windows is installed using a Windows virtual machine for Mac. Native Office for Mac does not, and is unlikely, to support COM add-ins.

Downloading Lugano:

Lugano can be downloaded with any modern browser. Some corporate environments may block downloading the Lugano20.zip installer file.

If you are having difficulties downloading Lugano, consider upgrading your browser, disabling any browser plug-ins that may prevent download, checking your firewall settings, and contacting IT support for assistance.

Web based versions of Office:

Lugano is not available for Office on the web. Unfortunately, Microsoft’s software toolset for web-based development is currently a limited subset of the Office functionality. The full Office functionality with all the advanced features is only available on a locally installed desktop versions of Office.

Install Instructions

Lugano installs like any other Windows software. If you are having problems with installation, please follow the steps below or refer to the detailed installation instruction in the manual with the download.

1. Download the software installer file: Lugano20.zip from the download page.
2. Unzip the downloaded file.
3. Open the unzipped folder.
4. Open the installation guide: ReadMe Installing Lugano.pdf, go to the section: Installing Lugano and follow the step-by-step guide.

   Security Warning and blank content with CHM files:

   When you open the instruction manual, Lugano Manual.chm,  you may receive an Open File – Security Warning from Windows. This warning is normal and is triggered by opening an internet downloaded CHM file (Microsoft Compiled HTML Help). Please select the Lugano Manual.chm file, click Properties and then click the Unblock button.

5. Run the installer: Lugano20.exe and follow the prompts. Request IT support if you do not have privileges to install software on your PC.

   Windows Defender SmartScreen:

   If Windows Defender SmartScreen opens, then click the More info link to display the run button, and then click Run.

6. The installer will download and install any prerequisite components automatically.

   Microsoft Component Prerequisites:

   The following Microsoft components may be required depending on your version of Excel. If the installer cannot download or install any missing prerequisite, please download, and install these directly from Microsoft using these links:

   Microsoft .NET Framework (version 4.8 or later)
   Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office (VSTO) Runtime

7. Activate with or without a license key.
   Launch Excel to activate Lugano. For a quick and simple evaluation Lugano may be activated without a license key. Some features will be disabled. For a full feature enabled evaluation of Lugano please go to the Free Trial page to register for a free 30-day licence key.

Uninstall Instructions

Uninstall Lugano via Windows Control Panel in the same way as any other Windows software. Note the configuration file will also be deleted.
